POSITION BASED IN BAMAKO, MALI • 12 MONTH FIXED-TERM CONTRACT RECRUITING ORGANIZATION Set up in 1976, GERES - Group for the Environment, Renewable Energy and Solidarity - is a not-for-profit association, which works to improve the living conditions of the poorest communities by implementing projects to reduce fuel poverty, preserve the environment and limit climate change and its consequences. The association deploys development engineering and specific technical expertise in partnership with local communities and stakeholders. In 2013, more than 50 employees are running four projects in West Africa, mainly in Mali and Benin. Since 2009, West African projects have been co-ordinated from Cotonou, by a team comprising the West Africa director, technical expert, fundraising officer and administration and finance officer.

JOB DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES Job title Communications officer and event organizer Unit/Department GERES West Africa co-ordinating office Line manager West Africa Director Location Bamako, Mali. Travel for several weeks at a time will be required, namely in Benin and Mali Job purpose Your role will be to enhance the visibility of our West Africa projects on the national, sub-regional and international stage and the visibility of GERES in general. You will focus on the key issue of ongoing efforts to increase funding in West Africa, giving priority to communications geared towards fundraising. Interactions within the organization You will work in close liaison with the fundraising officer in West Africa. Apart from the West Africa co-ordinating office, you will interact regularly with: project leaders and country directors in West Africa and the HQ communications and fundraising departments based in France.

PROFILE Essential requirements: • 5 years' successful experience in event-based communications, production of communications media and public relations • Training: International relations and event-based communications • Bilingual English/French (professional vocabulary) imperative • Excellent interpersonal skills (French/English), especially in dealing with partners • Excellent writing skills in French and English • Sound knowledge of NTIC and other on-line tools (webinar, facebook, twitter, skype, google hang out) • Sound knowledge of computer graphics tools (scribus, inkscape and gimp useful) • Significant organizational ability, ability to work independently and to deal with contingencies
Desirable skills: • Experience within an international solidarity organization and in West Africa • Sensitivity to GERES operational themes (renewable energy, environment and climate)

CONDITIONS • Status: Fixed-term contract (CDDU under French law) • Duration of contract : 12 months • Full-time position • Start date: 1 September 2013 at the latest • Gross pay or allowances: depending on profile and experience • Position based in Bamako (Mali); you will be required to travel, spending 3 - 6 weeks at a time in Benin and southern Mali (Koutiala) in connection with event organization. All expenses will be covered. Travel within West Africa will also be required in connection with attendance at certain meetings. • Occasional weekend working
